You deleted the original, but copies are still online

You deleted a post, an album or your whole account. Weeks later, your content is still on other sites. This is normal. Deleting the original does not delete the copies.

Why are copies still online?

Many leak sites copy public content automatically. Their software watches public accounts and copies every new post the moment it appears.

  • Public Reddit posts, especially on large adult communities, are a common source.
  • Public profiles on X and other social sites are copied the same way.
  • Paid content leaks when a subscriber downloads it and uploads it somewhere else.

A copy lives on its own server. When you delete your post, the copy stays.

Do you still own the content after you delete it?

Yes. Your copyright does not end when you delete the original. You can still send a DMCA notice for every copy.

What proof do you need before you delete anything?

Proof makes every notice easier. Before you delete, keep:

  • the original files, with their dates
  • a screenshot of each post, with your username and the date in view
  • the address of each post
  • a screenshot of your profile, if you plan to delete the account

If you already deleted everything, the original files on your own storage are often enough. An archived copy of your profile also helps.

Keep originals offline

Store a copy of your original files somewhere safe. They are the best proof that the content is yours.

How do you get the copies removed?

  1. Search for your stage name and your former stage names. Old leaks are often under old names.
  2. Do a reverse image search with a few of your photos.
  3. Make a list of every page address.
  4. Send a DMCA notice to each site. See write a DMCA notice.
  5. If a site does not answer, escalate. See when a site will not remove your leaked content.

Group the pages by site. One notice per site, with all its pages, is faster than many single notices.

What about the platform where you posted it?

Deleting a post does not always delete the file at once. Sometimes the file stays online at its direct address for some time. If you find a direct file address that still works, report it to the platform. See the guides for Reddit and Twitter/X.

What about archive sites?

Archive sites store copies of public pages. The Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) accepts removal requests from the copyright owner by email at info@archive.org. Give the exact archive addresses. Some other archive sites do not answer requests.

Why does Google still show your deleted post?

Google keeps old search results until it visits the page again. To speed this up:

  1. Check that the page is really gone.
  2. Use the Refresh Outdated Content tool of Google with the page address.
  3. Do this also for removed copies on leak sites.

For copies that are still online, send a copyright notice to Google. See remove from Google.

What does Unexpose do?

We search for your stage names and former stage names every day. With photo matching and face recognition, we also find copies that do not show your name. On a paid plan, we send the removal requests for you and ask Google to remove the results. This works the same for content that you deleted long ago.

Many of our customers stopped creating years ago. If that is you, add your former stage names first. See how we remove leaked OnlyFans content and remove leaked Fansly content.
