Definitions of terms used throughout Unexpose documentation.

AI Matching

Artificial intelligence-powered image comparison that can identify similar images even when modified, cropped, or altered.

C

CDN (Content Delivery Network)

A network of servers that delivers web content. Sometimes targeted in removal efforts (e.g., Cloudflare).

Counter-Notice

A legal response to a DMCA takedown, claiming the content is not infringing. Rarely used for clear infringement cases.

Legal protection automatically granted to original creative works, including images, videos, and written content.

D

US law providing a process for removing copyrighted material from the internet without going to court.

DMCA Agent

The designated person at a company who handles copyright infringement notices.

F

Face Recognition

Technology that identifies faces in images and matches them against reference photos. Helps protect against impersonation, deepfakes, and AI-generated content. Available on Enterprise plans.

False Positive

A match that isn't actually your content or is an authorized use. Can be marked as "Ignore" in Unexpose.

H

Hash

A digital fingerprint of an image, used for fast comparison. Types include perceptual hash (pHash) and difference hash (dHash).

Hosting Provider

A company that provides the servers where websites are stored. Can be contacted to remove infringing content.

I

Index

A searchable database. Unexpose maintains an index of images found across the web for matching against your content.

Infringement

Unauthorized use of copyrighted content.

Leak Site

A website specifically designed to host and share adult content without creator permission.

Lumen Database

A research project that collects and studies online removal requests. DMCA notices may be published here.

M

Match

A potential instance of your content found online. Can be an image match, text match, or face match.

Monitoring

Ongoing scanning for your content. Paid plans include automatic daily monitoring.

P

Perceptual Hash (pHash)

A type of image fingerprint that's robust to minor modifications like compression or resizing.

A connection to your profile on a content platform (OnlyFans, Fansly, etc.). Helps filter legitimate content and improve searches.

R

Removal Request

A formal request to take down infringing content. In Unexpose, this initiates the DMCA process.

S

Safe Harbor

Legal protection for websites that host user content, provided they respond to valid DMCA notices.

Scan

The process of searching for your content across the web. Can be manual or automatic depending on plan.

Similarity Score

A percentage indicating how closely a match resembles your original content. Higher scores indicate stronger matches.

Stage Name

A professional name or alias you use. Unexpose monitors for mentions of your stage names across the web.

Takedown

The process of removing infringing content from a website or search engine.

Thumbnail

A small preview image used to display matches without loading full-size images.

Trial

A 15-day free period with access to premium features for new users.

V

Vector Embedding

A mathematical representation of an image used for AI-powered similarity matching.

W

Watermark

A visible or invisible mark added to content to establish ownership and deter unauthorized sharing.

Whitelist

A list of domains or pages excluded from match results. Used to prevent false positives from your own platforms.

WHOIS

A database containing domain registration information, useful for finding hosting providers and abuse contacts.
