  • Help center or FAQ
  • Terms of Service

Step 2: Contact Abuse Department

Common email patterns:

Step 3: Use Standard Notice

Send a proper DMCA notice (template) to their designated agent.

What You Need

For all file hosts, prepare:

  • Direct file link - The specific link to your content
  • Description - What the content is and how you own it
  • Original location - Where you first published the content
  • Your information - Name, email, address, phone

Tips for Success

Get Direct Links

Find the direct link to the file, not just the landing page. This makes identification easier.

Report Quickly

Files on popular hosts can be downloaded and re-uploaded elsewhere. Act fast.

Check for Re-uploads

After removal, search for the file on other hosts. Infringers often use multiple services.

If content is behind a password:

  • You can still report it
  • Explain in your notice that the link is password-protected
  • The host can access the file for verification

Encrypted Content

Some services offer end-to-end encryption:

  • Mega encrypts files
  • Provider can't see content without key
  • Report anyway - they may require re-upload without encryption

If They Don't Respond

  1. Follow up - Send a reminder after 5 days
  2. Hosting provider - Report to their infrastructure provider
  3. Search engines - Remove from Google/Bing regardless
  4. Document - Keep records for potential legal action

Prevention

Set up alerts for your content:

  • Google Alerts for your stage name + "mega", "dropbox", etc.
  • Use Unexpose for automated monitoring

Watermarking

Add watermarks to deter casual sharing and prove ownership.
